Oculoplastic Surgery

Oculoplastics or oculoplastic surgery is reconstructive eye surgery and refers to surgical procedures of the orbit (eye socket), eyelids, tear ducts and other structures surrounding the eyes. Oculoplastic surgeons are ophthalmologists who have undertaken subspecialty training in plastic and reconstructive surgery of the periorbital and facial tissues. This can involve many different types of surgery that address both functional and aesthetic results.

It requires a deep understanding of the delicate anatomy and function of the eyelids and their surrounding structures. The Australian and New Zealand Society of Ophthalmic Plastic Surgeons (ANZSOPS) is the professional body that that helps surgeons maintain an exceptional level of care and treatment for their patients and Dr Eade is an active member of this group.

Treatments are usually performed as day procedures, under twilight sedation with local anaesthetic administered by carefully selected anaesthetists with experience in this type of surgery. Our team aims to make the surgery a calm and positive one for each patient. The aim of oculoplastic surgery is to protect and restore sight, reconstruct the eyelids and orbital tissues to optimise their function and protect the eyes and to offer the best aesthetic outcomes.
